Community Guidelines
Fossil is meant to be a calm, friendly place to play and share classic games. A few expectations keep it that way.
Be decent
- Treat other people with respect. No harassment, hate speech, or threats.
- Don't impersonate other users, staff, or anyone else.
- Keep usernames free of slurs, hate, and content that targets others.
- If someone blocks you, that's their decision to make, not a puzzle to get around. Creating another account, or any other way of contacting a person who's blocked you, is harassment and will be treated as such.
Use the platform honestly
- Don't abuse the friend or social features to spam or harass.
- Don't attempt to bypass bans, rate limits, or other protections.
- Don't try to break, overload, or exploit the service.
Content
Games come from the Internet Archive's public collection. Don't use Fossil to distribute or promote illegal material.
Messaging & safety
Messages are automatically checked before they send — see our Privacy Policy for exactly what's scanned for. In short:
- Encouraging self-harm toward someone else, or describing illegal activity, is never sendable. It's blocked outright and is a guidelines violation on its own.
- Self-harm or suicide language works differently: it's flagged with a warning, not blocked, since it's often part of a real, healthy conversation. You can send it anyway if that's what it is — but if it's reported and reviewed and turns out to be encouraging harm rather than supporting someone, sending it anyway won't protect your account from action.
- Links to adult or unsafe sites aren't allowed in messages and are blocked automatically.
Enforcement
Breaking these guidelines can result in a temporary or permanent ban, or removal of your account. Staff decisions are made to keep the community healthy. If you think something was a mistake, contact the site operator.
